June 10, 2012 - Mommy, Daddy and the mini Coupers pile into the car to meet up with Nana and Grampa Jim at Lake Okanagan Resort in Kelowna for a family vacation. After being in the car for 4 hours, Amelia has had enough and wants OUT!!!!
We ask Amelia to just hold on for another 5 minutes while we look for a rest stop. She blows bubbles to comfort herself while we pray for a McDonalds to appear.
Found it!! Thank god for restaurants with family washrooms. And for Happy Meals!!
Lily still has the $.05 toy (her "barbie dolly") from her meal and even sleeps with her. For the next two weeks we decide to try buying only toys from the Dollar Store and see how that works out. Sadly, the two dolls we get from there both lose their arms and legs. The funny thing is Lily still plays with the limbless torsos. Until we make them "disappear" because we feel badly for them. And embarassed for Lily when she shows them to people:)
"Hi Nana!! I sure missed you!"
The girls dig into the books and puzzles Nana and Grampa brought. They are like a travelling library!!
After supper we take a walk down to the beach. Lily can't wait to run into the water, so she takes off her dress and goes in...
The fact that it is practically sub-zero doesn't seem to bother her, and she runs around like a maniac until her legs and feet are numb and we make her come out.
Apparently Amelia also inherited the "I love freezing cold water" preference from somebody in the gene pool. Not from Daddy or Mommy, that's for sure.
From Grampa, maybe? No, no, he's got his shoes on and isn't actually in the water.
"C'mom in Mommy, Nana! I'll show you how to do it!" Lily says encouragingly.
Mommy and Nana politely decline.
Amelia gets a lift from Grampa Jim once her little feet are cold too.
Lily attempts to dry her feet by jumping up and down on the plastic beach chairs. One guess as to whether or not it works.
The girls explore the long long boat dock with Grampa. We pray that Lily doesn't decide to break into a run....straight off the end. Pretty sure she won't though, as she is usually very cautious in new situations.
Looking back at the resort from the boat dock.
The closest we can get in terms of a sitting portrait!
Lily catches a ride from Grampa. It's a symbiotic relationship. Grampa gets a head massage out of the deal.
Lily likes the screensaver on Grampa's laptop - a picture of her and Amelia in the car shaped shopping cart at Home Depot!
Lily goes to bed before Mommy & Daddy and takes advantage of the situation - how can a 3-year old take up a whole queen-sized bed?
"Good morning Nana! Will you please read to us even though you haven't woken up or brushed your teeth or had your coffee yet?? Thank you!!"
The view from our patio is spectacular and calming. Especially on a sunny day.
Especially ESPECIALLY if you are reclining in a patio lounger with your feet up.
Amelia gets her first taste of a chocolate covered ice cream treat. She eats the whole thing so quickly it doesn't have time to melt or drip. Excellent work, Meelie!
Lily makes a scary face. Which, incidentally, is exactly the same as her silly face.
Amelia tries to make a break for it.
Lily and Daddy take the ultra light DIY airplane outside to play with.
It all goes well until Daddy flings it into the lake. He goes and rescues it, but unfortunately there are no pictures of that.
Amelia checks out the conditions of the tennis court while Nana and Lily play tennis in the background.
Amelia is not pleased with the job the maintenance crew has done, and registers a complaint.
Lily chases after a ball that Grampa has hit to her...
...while Amelia lounges around for a bit.
Nana coaches Lily on how to keep her eye on the ball.
Her form may need a little work...
...but her enthusiasm doesn't!!
"Grampa, where is the ball??? I know you have it and I'm going to run circles around you and torment you {sic} til I find it" Grampa promptly gives the ball back.
Mommy and Amelia hop into the pool while there is a break in the clouds, and manage to catch a slice of sun.
Amelia gets a lift :)
Amelia is excited to be swimming!!
And Lily is excited to be floating.
"These water wings rock."
Mommy and Amelia ride a pool noodle, er, horsey.
Lily is doing ballet. No, seriously. These are some of the moves she shows us...
More ballet moves. She's ready for the stage!!
Lily has had a very long day and a fabulous vacation. She even waves bye-bye in her sleep.
